– Vi er nødt til å politisere digitaliseringen, og finne en egen vei i Norden og Europa hvor vi ikke bare blir mer og mer avhengig av de store techgiganter såsom Facebook, Google, Amazon og Huawei, sier Jan Juul Christensen, partisekretær i Socialdemokratiet i Danmark og styreleder i SAMAK.
Hvordan skal sosialdemokratiske partier og fagbevegelse i Norden og Europa forholde seg til digitaliseringen, når den griper stadig dypere inn i både hverdagsliv og samfunn, og alle politikkområder?
Det er det utfordrende temaet for den nye rapporten «A Progressive Approach to Digital Tech – Taking Charge of Europe’s Digital Future» fra den sosialdemokratiske tenketanken FEPS i Brussel og SAMAK.
Hovedbudskapet er at arbeiderbevegelsen bør utvikle en Europeisk digital modell tuftet på sosialdemokratiske verdier. Menneskene må settes i sentrum, og det offentlige styrke sin digitale kompetanse og innsats. Målet for digitaliseringen bør være et rettferdig, bæredyktig samfunn.
På veien forteller rapporten historien om internetts kommersialisering, og forklarer de nye teknologiene; med plattformene, kunstig intelligens, tingenes internett og 5G. Digitaliseringens trusler og muligheter for klima, utjevning, jobbene og andre samfunnsutfordringer drøftes. Til slutt skisseres mulige politikkidéer.
Rapporten er myntet på politikere, tillitsvalgte, medlemmer og sympatisører i de sosialdemokratiske partiene og fagbevegelsen, men vil også kunne ha bredere interesse.

Our digitalised future – Where to go?
– We need to politicise digitalisation, and find our own direction in the Nordics and in Europe, so that we do not depend ever more on the tech giants such as Facebook, Google, Amazon and Huawei, says Jan Juul Christensen, Party secretary in the Danish Social democratic party and chairperson of the SAMAK board.
How should the social democratic parties and the trade unions in Europe meet digitalisation, when it delves deeper and deeper into our daily lives as well society, and into all policy areas?
That is the challenging topic of the new report «A Progressive Approach to Digital Tech – Taking Charge of Europe’s Digital Future» from the progressive european foundation FEPS in Brussels and the Cooperation committee of the Nordic labour movement SAMAK.
The ultimate message is that the labour movement should develop a European digital model based on social democratic values. We must put people first, og the public sector must strengthen their digital cometence and efforts. The aim of digitalisation should be a fair, sustainable socieity.
To close in on this, the report tells the story of the commersialisation of Internet, and provides an easy to read ”digital tech primer” on the new technologies, with platforms, artificial intelligens, the Internet of Things and 5G. The threats and opportunities of digitalisation for climate change, equality, jobs and other societal challenges are discussed, and, finally, a number of policy ideas are sketched, togehter providing an outline of a European digital way based on progressive political values.
The report is targeted towards politicians, representatives, members and sympathisers in the social democratic parties and trade unions, but may also be of interest to others.
